Beacon Web Browser is a privacy and security-focused browser designed to enhance online security by utilizing decentralized peer-to-peer naming systems. The browser aims to replace traditional certificate authorities with innovative technologies like DNSSEC and DNS-Based Authentication of Named Entities (DANE).
With a lightweight peer-to-peer client connecting to the Handshake network, Beacon offers fast block header syncing, on-device DNSSEC validation, and encrypted DNS support with Handshake naming. Users can access decentralized naming systems such as Ethereum through HIP-5 integration. Additionally, the browser highlights websites secured by decentralized DNS-Based Authentication with a "Secured by Handshake" indicator. Beacon is open source, allowing users to provide feedback, contribute, and report bugs on GitHub.
